Blessings

Today we will celebrate Christmas with our staff and interns.  Potluck lunch and gifts.  More than gifts is the gratitude and blessings this year.

I feel so blessed with the wonderful team of people.  My gratitude overwhelms me.  I feel like nothing can stop us know.  I feel grateful for the talent, skills and knowledge each of them bring to ASPIRE.

We are so filled with so much negative news everyday of the week.  In my world there is so much positive that it is an honor to be in that presence.   I absolutely love my job and all it represents.

You know I was speaking at a group the other day and I mentioned that I have worked very hard the past 13 years and now God is finally blessing me with the gifts of hard work.   I fill overloaded with joy, happiness, peace, love(unconditional), laughter, fun and most of all dedicated and committed  hard working individuals that will carry this program into the future.  I feel safe and secure that no matter what happens God and my team will be there.   I know that families feel safe and secure in the knowledge my team brings.  This Christmas will be about thankfulness, gratitude, and love.   This Christmas will be about celebration of life and not about so many gifts.

I challenge you to find that peace and happiness within yourself and grow yourself spiritually, emotionally and learn everyday.

On this day ASPIRE is truly blessed.  Thank you everyone for assisting us in making this an outstanding year.  On this day I will CELEBRATE!

On this day ASPIRE will honor all of the animals for the wonderful blessing they have bestowed on each and everyone of us.  Without the beautiful horses, dog and cats the healing of our souls, body and mind would not be as easy.  The transition of healing is comfortable with the animals in our presence.

May you all have a blessed and wonderful CHRISTMAS and an absolute wonderful, happy, healthy NEW YEAR.   LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE FOR ALL TO SEE!

Christmas Giving

Wow, it is almost Christmas!  A day to celebrate the birth of Jesus!  A time for giving and receiving gifts.  A time of year that we seem to be most vulnerable.  We hurry to get our shopping done and we hurry to bake and get cards sent out and we just hurry, hurry, hurry in fear that there is not enough time to get it all done!

Pause for a moment!  As I was taking a walk on the beach with my grandson one day during the Thanksgiving Holiday I found myself relishing in the beauty that we had before us.  The sun was setting and on the lake and there were so many beautiful colors.  I said to Kameron, "What colors do you see?"  Purple, Blue, White, Pink and listen, "What do you hear?"  "I hear the water, and the geese" he said.   What an awesome time to just stop and pause and gather in God's beauty.

On this Christmas I challenge you to pause and relish in the God's beauty and take time to share, give and enjoy the time we have together.

On this Christmas it is time to pause and decide what or who will receive our wonderful gifts.   I challenge you to think about giving a portion of your giving to ASPIRE. Christmas is about celebrating and giving.   Give from your heart, think about giving to this program.  Do you need so many things or can you give up one thing and give back to our community?   As you decide where your Christmas giving goes I hope you will consider making a difference in the lives that ASPIRE serves.  2012 ASPIRE served over 800 people with benefits that surpassed all our goals and dreams.  The program met all of its goal for the year.   We are making a difference one person at a time.  In order for us to continue to grow and expand it is with great hope that you will consider giving to ASPIRE through a check, credit card, or online.

ASPIRE has set its sights on a 5 year plan and that includes an indoor facility.   ASPIRE is looking for 10-20 acres of land.   You see as I paint this picture it is with my heart that we continue to grow and expand.  ASPIRE has run out of space to grow the program further as we only have so much land and it does not afford us to expand our herd of horses and will not allow us to grow the programming or build our indoor facility here.  ASPIRE has it sights on growing with a veterans and veterans family program, expanding our women's group, doing more therapeutic riding groups, expanding our outreach programs and creating new programs to serve the youth and adults of our community.  You see ladies and gentlemen that is not possible without land and a bigger facility!  So that we can serve individuals year around and we can provide the much needed services to a broader scope of people we need to grow and find that land.   The lives of the people we touch with partnerships with our beautiful horses are in fact healing and beautiful and the impact we have on their lives is amazing.  Lives are being transformed everyday and with your help we can continue to provide more healing and transform more lives.  PLEASE CONSIDER GIVING A PORTION OF YOUR CHRISTMAS GIVING TO ASPIRE.  AGAIN YOU CAN GIVE BY CHECK, CREDIT CARD OR ONLINE THROUGH OUR WEBSITE WWW.ASPIRETRP.ORG.  If you are interested in donating land, please contact us directly at the ASPIRE office (319)296-0964.  I wish you a very blessed Christmas and wonderful New Year.

Thanksgiving

There are some individuals that are posting 21 days of thankfulness on facebook.  I decided it would be a wonderful way to start my day.  So each day I come up with something to be thankful for.

I challenge you to be thankful 365 days of the year not just 21 days.   We decide that the world is in chaos and we need to post and feel that chaos but in the midst of our chaos is our own lives.  As we sit down at the the Thanksgiving table this year and give thanks remember we can only make a difference in the our life which will in turn will affect another person.  One day, one moment, one person.   "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me!  Being thankful comes easy for me as I have so much to be thankful for even in the midst of chaos we can be thankful

ASPIRE just completed its 13th year and Volunteer Recognition brought a beautiful powerpoint presentation and over 80 people.  What a great night of celebrating volunteers, staff, riders, board members, families, community and our beautiful horses.   It was a blessing to celebrate these wonderful individuals and animals that give so much of themselves and think nothing of the effort.  It is humbling to be part of these amazing individuals and animals and I am thankful for each and everyone.

I am thankful for my amazing family and the time I have to spend with all of them.   I am truly blessed by God to have a wonderful husband, children, grandchildren and extended family.

It is on this Thanksgiving day I will give thanks to God for being part of my life and thanks for the many blessings I have received in this life and will continue to receive from God.

I wish you all a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving.  Enjoy your beautiful time together.

Praises and Blessings

In the midst of the storm there is darkness.  Out of the darkness comes the light and even a beautiful rainbow.

When we are in our darkest moment if we step back and look for the light we can feel and see God's vision for us.   What a great opportunity!  I was talking with a friend last night and we discussed that when you see God opening a door we better run through it.   When he shuts the door we better look for the glimmer of light through the window.

2012 started with some darkness.  In the midst of the darkness came the light.  Our lights are shining so bright that we are in the rainbow watching for the pot of gold.  Where is your pot of gold?   Is your light shining bright?   What opportunities are being offered to you and the your darkness is so heavy there is no light?

I challenge everyone to look for their light to shine,  because as we go through storms we never walk alone.  God is always by our side.   We will go through storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, death, destruction, trauma, unmet needs, unfulfilled dreams, life is not promised us a bed of roses.

God is there in the midst and we must look to our faith and follow the path he has laid before us.

ASPIRE is pleased to know that we have made a difference in over 800 peoples lives this year.  Even for a moment when a senior reaches out to pet Cody or Pixie.  Even when a person comes out to tour for a couple of hours and watching the look of excitement on their face.   One person, one day, one moment at a time we help them to see their lights shine.

2012 has brought us darkness but the light is shining bright and even if darkness comes our lights are shining bright enough that the praises and blessings, our faith and grace will prevail over the darkness.

It has been an praises and blessings year and we are blessed and thankful and appreciative for all the wonderful people, animals and friends and community that have come forth to support us in our endeavors.  Thankful is just not the right word.   It is so much more than being thankful.

Blessing for a beautiful day.

Winter! Are we ready!

Harvest is completed! Now it is time to think about winter!  The holidays!  Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years.  The winter holidays seem to make us overwhelmed and anxious and for some depressed.

I am in midst of getting ready for my winter vacation.  So much to do.  I have faith it will all get done and I will be ready to go by mid November.   I love spending the holidays in Clear Lake.  It is a time of reflection, peace, renewed friendships, special times with family and relaxation.   No hurry, no hussle and bussle.  Just relish in the moment.  I take the time to pray, bake, exercise, shop, pray some more, read, watch the ice fisherman, watch the sunrise, sunset, and the beautiful moon reflecting on the lake.   I enjoy the beauty God has provided.  I enjoy taking walks around the lake and enjoy going downtown and hanging out.   I enjoy going swimming with my grandson.  I enjoy making memories.   What is so special about this time is my husband makes this all possible for us to be able to make all these beautiful friendships and memories.  What a great husband!  Got to love the fact that he sees and understands my needs.

ASPIRE will soon finish classes for the winter.  We are not able to provide programming in the winter due to our outdoor arena.   It is our desire to resolve this issue so within the next 5 years. We would love to have an indoor facility.   We are so appreciative and love our outdoor arena but it has its constraints due to weather related problems.   The outdoor arena brings us the beauty of the sunsets, deer in the field, beautiful trees surround the arena, listen to the horses in the pastures, the traffic passing by and the beauty of nature.  It gives our riders a chance to breath the fresh air and be part of something they don't get to experience in their everyday lives.

As this year begins to draw to a close both for programming and the year end, it is a reflection of peace, love, hope, belief, power and amazing progress.  I look forward to seeing volunteers this winter digging their heels in and assisting in keeping our horses healthy.   I look forward to working with our women's group this winter.  Most of all I look forward to being with our riders next spring and watch the amazing strides they take.

Yes, we have some work to do to get ready for winter.   But God will provide the help we need and the time to get it done.   It will be an awesome winter and we will enjoy the time whether it is warm and dry or cold and snowy.

As we get ready for our Halloween party and Volunteer Recognition, enjoy the beauty that God has given to all of us and remember to smile and look for something positive in each and every day!  Blessings

Life in the fast lane

Wow!  It is the middle of October, where has the time gone!  Slow down we move to fast got to make the morning last!  We're in a hurry and don't know why!   When do we slow down and cherish the moments that help us to think clearly and be more grateful for the time we spend with nature and others.

This weekend has taught me about moving to fast.  I was in a hurry!  House to clean, laundry to do, dishes to clean up, horses to take care of, cats and dog to tend to, pick up things outside for winter and so much to get done before my winter vacation.   Hurry, Hurry, Hurry!

Last week we were having a discussion and the desk began to shake for no apparent reason, the lights on my dash began to go off and on for no apparent reason, then a morning dove landed on my railing right outside my window and sat there watching me for a long while.  The time was not important, however I remember thinking maybe it is hurt.   It was watching with intent moving its beak like it was talking to me.  My husband said maybe it was an angel and dove's represent peace and serenity.

Saturday was that hurry day!  Sunday we decided to pack the car and go to Gays Mills for apples.  Adventures begin with, it is raining and my wiper is not working properly.  We made it to Prairie Du Chen and stopped at a car parts place to replace them.  Off to McDonalds for lunch and while we are eating lunch my grandson says my chest hurts.  I ask," Are you OK?"  He replys "Yes".   On to Gays Mills for apples.   On our drive back we stop at Dyersville to eat dinner.  Not the best food.  We enjoyed the time with family.

Arrive home and get unpacked and sit down finally to just RELAX!   I fall asleep and get woke up my husband had a call they were taking his dad to the hospital.  It ended up he had pneumonia and aspirated earlier in the afternoon.   How did my grandson know?   God has given him a special gift and he is truly amazing.  He stops and thinks about things and slows down and listens.   He just comes out with whatever is given to him to say.  We are in such a hurry that we don't slow down to hear God's voice.

ASPIRE is growing and I am at peace with the program.  My family seems in a little disarray.   Slowing down and hearing God's voice will guide me in the right direction for all phases of my life.

Peace, Serenity and Love!

A little bit of sunshine

Amidst the clouds are rays of sunshine.  Amidst the sunshine is the beautiful colors.  Fall brings us so many beautiful sunsets and sunrises.  The leaves turn colors, seasons change, the grass turns brown and the leaves eventually fall from the trees.

Often we begin to think of the cold winter that is to follow, then we hibernate and sometimes seasonal depression follows.   I want to challenge you to get out of your comfort zone, dress warm and experience the beautiful sunlight on a cold and wintery day.   Statistics show we are so short on vitamin D.   We need sunlight.

God gave us the sun the rain and the snow and the moon.  God gave us the beauty of nature.  Enjoy and have fun through this beautiful season of changes.

Those of us at ASPIRE continue to enjoy the beauty of the changing seasons and love to watch the horses grow their winter hair and watch them kick up their heels and run and play in the cooler weather.

We are enjoying watching the many changes that are happening here on our farm.  The old corn crib has been torn down, harvest is in full swing.   We are watching the riders gaining in their new "strides".   We watch the changing and dedication of our wonderful volunteers.

It will soon be time gather the troops for our Volunteer Recognition.  We thank everyone on a regular basis but on this day it is a chance to thank them for all they do.  Join us on November 8th for our free chili supper and help us thank everyone for the great year we have completed.

Don't forget our horses and barn need attention all winter so come out and enjoy some wonderful winter sunlight and help us keep the horses clean and the barn clean throughout the winter.   Thank you all for the great work you do and for supporting this organization.

Appreciation

As ASPIRE continues to grow, it is time to express my appreciation and gratitude for the people in my life that have made that possible.

1st to the awesome donors, it is your gifts, dedication and kindness that brings us to level of service ASPIRE provides.  Our program would not be the same without your awesome gifts.  Thank you so much to the community for making possible to make differences in the lives of thousands.

2nd to the staff.  Bobbi and Sara it is truly heartwarming to work with such an understanding staff and wonderful team.  It makes the wheels of the program turn so much easier.   I am totally grateful for your dedication, compassion and willingness to go the extra mile.

3rd to the volunteers and board.  Thank you so much for your commitment and love for ASPIRE.  Thank you for giving so much time out of your busy schedule to assist us in providing such an awesome program. I am so grateful for your smiling faces and your eagerness to learn more and be a part of the bigger picture.

4th to the interns.  ASPIRE would not have grown and developed at the pace it has without our dedicated interns.   I am so thankful and filled with gratitude for all the awesome interns that have crossed and will continue to cross paths with in years to come.   You truly make a difference.

5th to my family.   I have such a great support from my family.   It is an honor to be part of a group that supports this dream and they dedication in making this dream a reality.   Thank you all so much for being part of my life.  Love you all.

6th to my coaches, mentors and educators.  Thank you for making a difference.

7th to the riders, family and horses.  Wow there are no words to express the beauty they all possess inside.  Given the chance they blossom and grow and become someone or an animal that you never dreamed possible.   Everyone needs that chance and we all possess beauty we just need the chance and the situation to bring out the beauty.

First and foremost with LARGE STARS ****** is God!  There is hope, there is light, there is dreams, there is peace, there is beauty.  My spiritual journey has unfolded and I am truly grateful for all the people that have been my mentors on this journey.   God is our light, hope and our number 1 mentor.  God you are the light and the wonder, continue to bring out the best in all of us and bring on the beautiful light that shines in all of us.

Blessings for an awesome day!

Day to Day Living

A friend sent me this prayer and it is message to strive for everyday! Autumn brings a new season and new beginnings!  Beautiful colors, beautiful sunrises and sunsets.  Beautiful moon!  Cooler weather!  Changes and more changes.   It seems like in this world of technology and rushing and hurry all the time we forget to take time to relish in the beauty God has provided for us.  On Saturday some people came and took down our old corn crib and now there is a view to the back pastures.  What a gorgeous view.   Enjoying the moments that we have and cherishing those moments in our minds eye.   Our lives are unmangeable but with God and his beauty in every season we can accomplish anything!  I challenge you to get outdoors and enjoy God's beauty.  Breathe it in and just hold it and remember.   So much to do so many places today, tomorrow but for 10 minutes just enjoy God and all his beauty.  Enjoy today and make some beautiful memories.

Dear God, I am powerless and my life is unmanageable without your help and guidance. I come to you today because I believe that You can restore and renew me to meet my needs today. Since I cannot manage my life or affairs, I have decided to give them to You. I put my life, my will, my thoughts, my desires and ambitions in Your hands.

I give You all of me: the good and the bad, the character defects and shortcomings, my selfishness, resentments and problems. I know that You will work them out in accordance with Your plan. Such as I am, take and use me in Your service. Guide and direct my ways and show me what to do for You.

I cannot control or change my friends or loved ones, so I release them into Your care for Your loving hands to do with as You will. Just keep me loving and free from judging them. If they need changing, God, You'll have to do it; I can't. Just make me willing and ready to be of service to You, to have my shortcomings removed, and to do my best.

Help me to see how I have harmed others and make me willing to make amends to them all. Keep me ever mindful of thoughts and actions that harm myself and others, and which separate me from Your light, love and spirit. And when I commit these errors, make me aware of them and help me to admit each one promptly.

I am seeking to know You better, to love You more. I am seeking the knowledge of Your will for me and the power to carry it out.

Patches and memories

I have been thinking!  Oh boy my husband says I think to much!  My mind races with so many thoughts.  Some days clear thinking and sometimes just random thoughts.   Is your mind filled with all sorts of muddle?  I have to pause and decide what to keep and what to throw away.  Our houses are sometimes filled with stuff.  What do we do with all the stuff?

I have decided to dedicate my life to giving back to others.  I have found that stuff is not so important, memories are important.   I get muddled when I want to make so many lasting memories and fill my life with joy.

I try to take one day at a time and cherish the memories of that day.  Yesterday morning I had to take one of favorite barn cats to the vet as she got run over.  I cried for her loss but when I read a post I stopped and remembered the memories that she had instilled in so many peoples lives the short time she was on this earthly life.   She will be cherished and remembered for ever as the one eyed kitty that loved people and attention.  She was a special kitty and loved by all.  Patches was saved by one of our staff a few years ago.  She would not have been able to make so many memories if she had not been saved.  We will all miss Patches but we will treasure the memories she brought to all of us.

We share memories, love, excitement, joy and lessons in life by being with our horses, dog and cats.  They teach us new lessons each day.  We want you to be part of the memory making process.   I have a friend that says allow, allow, allow and listen, listen, listen.

We have the beautiful joy of listening to the thundering hooves, watching the horses run in the pasture at dusk and watch the sunset through the windows on the old hog house.  Memories!  Thinking about the peace it brings to listen and watch.  Memories!  Patches will be with us in our hearts forever as will all the animals that have passed before us and the people that have touched our lives is some way to create POSITIVE memories.  By creating and being part of memory making we get the chance to create and establish lessons, tools, skills and love.   Be part of the memory making process.  That ladies and gentlemen to me is success.  We need money to live but our wealth is the relationships and memories we make that make a difference.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

On this day we celebrate with gratitude and thanks.

It is a year of special events: Sara has a decade birthday, my husband turns 50, I turn 60, my granddaughter turns 1, and it is the 75th anniversary of my husband's grandparents buying the farm, and our 16th wedding anniversary all within a few months of each other.

First and foremost thank you God.  I am grateful for being there for me every step of the way through the trials, tribulation, the hardships and the downfalls.  I am grateful  for your forgiveness and for the lessons I have learned and growing closer to you.  I am grateful to you God for just being you.  My life would not be the same without you and my faith and spirituality would not be so important if I did not place you first.
I am grateful for our animals.  The Lord has blessed my life and will continue to bless my life with awesome horses, dogs, cats and many other pets across my lifetime.  They have changed my life and will continue to change my life.

I am grateful for my family,  my mother who loved me and gave me life.  She taught me the joy of giving back to others.   I am grateful to my brothers for the fights, the love and being there for me in all of life's turmoil’s.  I am grateful for my father and the wonderful memories.  Thank you to my first husband for teaching me many lessons about love, having fun and it is ok to play,  for teaching me about addiction and what part I play in that.   I am grateful for our two beautiful children and out of that came 4 beautiful grandchildren.

I am grateful to my daughter.   I have so many memories with her.  I have been through some of the toughest times in my life with her.  I have learned humbleness, and I have learned the how to cope with a range of emotions with her.  ASPIRE is partially successful due to her dedication and commitment over the years.

Thank you for the beautiful memories we had from our travels across the US.  I have had the privilege of seeing over half of the states in the US and enjoy the beauty God created in so many places.

I am grateful to my son, for the wonderful memories and unconditional love.  Lord you have provided me with grace with him in the midst of these lessons I have learned; being tested, rebelled on, testing boundaries and defiance. I have learned so many life lessons that have made it easier to love those individuals with ADHD.  ASPIRE has been a success due in part to the life lessons I have learned from him.  I am so proud of the progress he has made and many memories we have created.  You see I have learned unconditional love even with friction and conflict.  I see it in his eyes and his feelings.  In the midst of conflict I know I am loved. In the midst of play I know I am loved.

Thank you to both of my children for the wonderful grandchildren.  Justin, Kameron, Autumn and Brianna are the light of my life. My light shines when they are around.  I get to enjoy being a kid again.  I love each and every one of them with all my heart and enjoy spending time with all of them. I have learned so many life lessons that I hope the little bit of wisdom I have gained over my life and giving them love and boundaries will be everlasting.

I am grateful to my husband and being part of my life.  I am grateful to him for assisting in making my dreams come true.  Thank him for staying with me through thick and thin and in bad moments and good moments.  I am thankful for the beautiful kind heart and awesome giving he has done throughout our 16 years and I look forward to many more.

I am grateful to my son-in-laws who have given me beautiful grandchildren.  Thank you for your support, kindness and love throughout the years.

A special thanks to Christine who has been there for me in most of life's turmoil’s.   I am grateful for all the wonderful memories and a loving heart.  My life would not be the same without all the great trips, time spent together and the wonderful conversations we engage in everyday.

I am touched and appreciate all my beautiful friends, staff, volunteers, riders, families, board and all the people that have touched my life with life long memories, made a difference and taught me life lessons.  You have given me more that life could ever say in words.  It has been a truly awesome journey and I look forward to what God has in store for all of us.

I am grateful to the community and all of our donors.  Thank you for believing in ASPIRE and me.     I fully appreciate your kindness and generosity.   I remember so many years ago and starting out when I was just thinking about this idea and working on gathering information, money and people and now it is 13 years later and have served literally thousands of people.  It only seems like yesterday that I ventured on this journey.  It has been many lessons learned and so many tears of appreciation, joy and sorrow.   I would not change it for anything.   I love this job and all that it represents and it is you ladies and gentleman and my faith that have given me the ability to take one step at a time and move forward.  I thank you for that.

Thank you and may God bless and please continue to watch what God unfolds for us on this beautiful journey.  Thank you for the past memories, present memories and all the memories we have to look forward to the years to come.  It is about the memories and relationship, beautiful memories from everyone that touches our lives.   Do you remember when...........

Women With Hope

You never know where it is you'll meet that one friend that you can rely on for anything.  It may be in school, work, or at a social gathering.  Or it may be in a barn....

ASPIRE Therapeutic Riding Program in Waterloo has traditionally served primarily children with mental, physical, and emotional disabilities.  Now, however, ASPIRE is branching out.  This spring Marilyn Moore, the Executive Director of ASPIRE, began a 8 week equine therapy program called "Women of Hope" specifically for women dealing with the effects of abuse.

Friendships first begin with spending time getting to know one another, and so did the women's relationships with the horses.  Through using their horses as canvases, these women artistically shared their life stories and learned about the life stories of their classmates, both human and equine.  They were told that they could now be whoever they want to be; the horses didn't care who they had been in the past or what others thought of them.  The horses were friends that were always there and always accepting.

Recovering from trauma is never easy, and at times the horses brought out the women's vulnerabilities .  They felt scared to take the next step, but just like when moving to the next jump height, fear to take the next step meant that growth was happening.  The weekly sessions helped the women learn to once again trust others and accept themselves, and one woman said it was the most peaceful experience she has ever had.

The class will begin again this fall.   If you or anyone you know is interested, contact ASPIRE at 319-296-0964.

Thanks so much.  Rachel Tish, ASPIRE Intern

On a Warm Summer's eve

Wow!  What a week it has been here in the Cedar Valley.  The sheriff's department has had a busy week.  Thank you Tony Thompson for the great work you are doing.

An escape from jail, an attempted suicide, and now missing little girls.  Who would of thought that our small community would endure so much in such a few days.  Here we are looking back and looking forward.  What a great team of supporters and volunteers.  Great sheriff and police departments.   Wonderful people to get us through these struggles.   We will keep praying for the people at Peregrine and the little girls and their families.   The community is faithful and God's love is everlasting.  Many of us are facing losses with the drought conditions.   Rain is a necessity.   Heat makes us stressed and short tempered.   Remember a few months from now this will all just be memories.   We continue to pray and love and forgive all that has occurred.  We keep our heads high and love our neighbors.

At ASPIRE we are busy serving people each and every day.  We are making differences in the lives of our participants as well as staff and volunteers.  Reading all the sad news it brings joy to my heart to see the faces of the children as they ride astride a horse.   Please keep our animals in your prayers during this heat and trying to find hay to get us through the winter.

Cowboy Breakfast was a success and a special thank you to all that helped or attended.  Your presence is truly appreciated.   Please come next year to support our campers.

Camp Hope is in need of volunteers it takes 60 people to make this camp happen so please consider volunteering even for one day.  It is a lot of fun and you can go to Lost Island Water Park.

Blessings and prayers for a beautiful day.

Summer Haze

It is the 4th of July and it is hot.  More than hot.   How are you surviving the heat?  On this Independence Day it is important to me to give thanks to all of our veterans for their service and their families for supporting them while they are fighting for you and I.

On this 4th of July I would like to give thanks to God for the many blessings and freedom he has bestowed on me.

You see I am blessed to have 4 beautiful grandchildren, a son and daughter, husband and two brothers.   Yes that is my immediate family but my family extends way beyond blood relatives because God has blessed my heart with the ASPIRE family.   Wow I am so truly blessed to have such great staff, volunteers, riders, families, horses, community, and of course the wonderful and awesome interns.   My life has been enriched and blessed with such awesome people.   I have learned some hard lessons across these years and I have struggled and I have fell short of God's desires.   I have gained some beautiful friendships and I have learned many lessons from these people that have crossed my path.   I have learned life lessons from the horses and humbled by the families we serve.   I have learned that nothing in life will keep me down for any given time.  My mom always taught me that you pick yourself up and dust yourself off and start all over again.   You pull yourself up by the boot straps and get on.  I am getting on with God's help.

ASPIRE is blessed with awesome donors that care and are concerned about ASPIRE and the future.  My heart is touched by the awesome people that step up.  I can't even begin to thank and appreciate this awesomeness in words.

ASPIRE is blessed with awesome board members that truly make a difference.  Thanks for their time and dedication.

As we click our heels and look into the future only God knows where we are going but you know I will keep on pushing on and moving one step in front of the other.   God will lead me along the right path.   He keeps reaching in and touching my heart.

It is my wish to have no one ever come to us without leaving better and happier.  Be the living expression of God's kindesses,  Kindness in your face, Kindness in your eyes, Kindness in your smile.  Mother Theresa.

This is the desire of my heart.  Go out and hug someone, love someone, let them know how much you care and have an awesome holiday!

Get Ready Here We Come

Summer is moving along quickly.  ASPIRE is in the middle of summer classes.   Summer classes are Mon Morning, Tues Morning and Tues Evening.  Outreach programs have been Bremwood and Salvation Army.  What a great group of children and young adults.  They are learning more about horses everyday.   ASPIRE had 42 high school young adults from Worthington, MN come out for volunteering.  Wow that was quite the morning.   They achieved many projects and we are thrilled to have the accomplishments finished.   Everyone is preparing for the Sturgis Falls Parade and Sturgis Falls information booth this weekend.  Stop by and see us.   Much more to come with Salvation Army and Bremwood.  Then off to the races with the Cowboy Breakfast July 15th and Horsemanship 101 and 102.  Then Camp Hope, August 6-10.

Don't forget our big birthday bash on August 19th.  Stay tuned for more information.

Have a great day and enjoy this beautiful weather.

Another day in the life of ASPIRE

Another beautiful day on the farm.   Do you find yourself wondering what to do this summer?  I have great options for you.  We are in need of volunteers for classes and day time programming.   It has been great to have morning classes but we still need extra volunteers. We are also in need of volunteers for Camp Hope.
Our women's group will be finishing up on Friday evening for the spring session.  Stay tuned for the fall.   It has been an awesome group and we have learned so much from each other.   Of course the heat has been hard on the horses but with morning classes they are doing very well.   Fans are a blessing.
Our riders and parents are pleased with the great outcomes and enjoying watching their children progress with socialization, muscle control, flexibility, following directions and so much more.
I have been working on a story to submit to a book that will be published next year.  I am excited and hope to get the inspiration soon.
My husband will be 50 in a few days and I will be 60 in August so we have decided to celebrate these birthdays with a party.  It is our way of thanking our family and friends for the many ways that you give back to us throughout our lives.
Our interns are working diligently on newsletters, thank yous, Camp Hope, Sturgis Falls, Cowboy Breakfast and Dances with Horses.   I am proud of all of them.
Sara will be getting her certification the end of the month.  We wish her well and know that she will pass.   She is doing an awesome job and keeping things up and running smoothly.
It truly has been an awesome spring and we look forward to making differences this summer with our riding classes, outreach programs, and special events.   Thanks so much for being part of our life.

Memories

Today has lead me to talk about memories.  I believe that part of my mission in life is to create lasting memories not only for my family but for all the people we touch that come through our doors.  If you come into my life as husband, brother, parent, extended family, children, grandchildren, rider, volunteer, board member, advisory board member, intern, participant, staff, donor or just meet with me for a moment, I hope that I have left you with some precious memories.

In all of our days on earth we can not take stuff, money, vehicles, homes, furniture, clothes, etc.  The most precious moments we can take with us, is memories and the relationships we build and foster throughout our lifetime.  I have so many precious memories.

Please consider being part of our memory making process.  As we are coming into summer, there will be summer riding classes, camp, horsemanship classes, our women's group, summer outreach, Cowboy Breakfast and just spending time with horses.  Our beautiful horses are precious in building special memories.

If you have a group that is interested in miniature horse visits or field trips let us know and we will be happy to set up a time for them to visit or for your group to visit the farm.

Join us in stepping forward to provide lasting and special memories for all of us to take with us for a lifetime.

A new day is dawning

The crops are in the field, our house is clean, we are organizing and changing things around.   Time keeps ticking away and the year keeps speeding by.  Our world is changing with so many great events and classes.  The riders are progressing at a rapid pace.  It is beautiful sight to see a child sit up tall on a horse when they were hunched over just a few short weeks ago.  It is beautiful to see a young girl take a chance in leading a horse when she was extremely fearful a few short weeks ago.  It is amazing to see the horses adapt and enjoy their time with our riders.  What a beautiful herd we have in our program.  These horses give a their hearts and souls to our riders.  They want to please us in every way.   I have received the privilege of feeding in the morning again and it is awesome to take the time to build a relationship with them again.  Our days are filled with joy and laughter as we watch, teach and observe the many beautiful strides our riders are gaining as they move forward in their progress.  ASPIRE continues to move forward in our progress.  Please welcome Sara Card as our new Program Director.   She will be taking her certification in June.   She is busy trying to catch up with all the Camp Hope, Summer Programming and Horsemanship programs for the summer.  It will be a busy summer and we are looking forward to building positive memories with hundreds of children and adults.  Please come and join us in making a difference.

Summer is just around the corner

Where has the year gone?  The seasons are changing rapidly.  Hairy Horse Show and Let's Dance So They Can Ride were a success.  Everyone enjoyed the evening.  A huge thank you to all the people that attended, volunteered, worked and supported ASPIRE financially with these special events.  You have made a difference in the lives of many.   A heartfelt thanks to everyone.   Summer is upon us and the Cowboy Breakfast will be here soon.  Mark your calendars for July 15th at the UAW Hall.  8-1.   Great breakfast and we are looking forward to serving all of you and having a great time.   Summer classes will be starting in June.   We still have openings in Camp Hope and our Horsemanship 101 and 102 classes.   Call our office to sign up.   We are sad to say farewell to Jen Cheville.  She will be deeply missed.   Friday is her last day.   A round of applause for a job well done.   We wish her well in her endeavors.   ASPIRE will look a little different but we are excited about new endeavors and changes.   Our women's group is going very well and hope to continue and increase funding and individuals.  We are off to a great start.

Because You're Gone

I found this at the Midwest Horse Fair.  Thought I would share.

Charging into my life,
like a black freight train.
Full of energy barely harnessed.
I wait to hear the rumble of your feet.
I listen to the quiet....because you're gone.

Large, dark, expressive eyes,
Always watching, always seeing.
Never missing a thing.
I wait to feel those eyes on me.
I turn to look and see nothing...because you're gone.

A quiet nicker of greeting
alternating with a more enthusiastic
announcement of my arrival.
An outward sense of embarrassment.
Deep inside I am pleased.
I walk inside to say "hello"
A one sided conversation...because you're gone.
Bursting upon the scene,
the focus of a spotlight.
Beauty in motion, you take my breath away.
I stand back at the edge and look with pride.
Grateful to be a part of your show.
Now the spotlight is empty...because you're gone.

My sense of gratitude
for so many jobs well done.
Professionalism, kindness and respect
while we worked as a team.
"Thank you for making me look good"
the phrase that re plays through my head.
That job is now finished...because you're gone.

A day of courage despite pain.
A brave heart and spirit that fought the good fight.
Endless tears, indescribable loss.
Time goes by, hearts still grieve.
Don't think I've forgotten you just...
because you're gone.

Because you're gone...
Thoughts and ideas take shape.
Meaningless becomes meaningful.
A foundation is laid to benefit those left behind.
Moving forward in an unforeseen direction
on a predestined path.
A bit of "the greater good" accomplished...
because you were here.

Farewell dear friend,
Dr. Kathy Fox

This story reminds me of ASPIRE'S horse Dandy.  Hope you enjoy.  It certainly touched my heart.  Have a wonderful Friday.

Exciting Stories

Wow, it has been awhile.  Where does the time go?   So many stories and exciting times here at the office.  We are pleased to have Sara with us.  She is doing an awesome job.

I am so excited two of our former students are coming back to ride with us.  How awesome!  They were little when they rode with us and now they are all grown up.  It will be so exciting to see these families again after so many years.   It warms my heart to see such wonderful things happening.

ASPIRE had a group of students out yesterday.   One of the students was in a wheelchair.  First time with horses and he began petting Cody with hand over hand assist.  The students move his foot boards out of the way and Cody came right up to him and laid his head in his lap.  The student was very excited and generally overjoyed.  It was a blessing to see this day come together.

Cody is ready to do his visits.  So if you from a nursing home, school, church or preschool he is looking forward to seeing you.

ASPIRE'S Hairy Horse is coming up April 14th and 15th.

ASPIRE'S group for women that have been abuse is coming together and we will be working with them in a pilot program.  That will begin the end of April.

May 5th is Let's Dance So They Can Ride.

It is fun and exciting times here at the office and barn.  If you are interested in helping out in anyway please let me know and we would be happy to have you volunteer.

What beautiful weather we are experiencing!  Oops you say it is February.  What is this?   The horses are all excited about this nice weather.   Spunky is the word!  Well, we are working hard on finalizing the clinic that was postponed for snow.  Snow!   The Dan Grunewald Clinic is scheduled for this weekend Feb 4 and 5. Let's pray for good weather.   We are working hard on getting ready for spring classes and summer outreach programs.   I have been working on interviews for instructors, and grants.   I am also in the midst of writing an article for a magazine.  Wow, that is difficult as I have to write in story form.  Busy, Busy, Busy.    I assure you that I never have a moment to be bored.   Next event is Hairy Horse Show April 14 and 15.    Both the clinic and horse show will be at Ellsworth in Iowa Falls.   It is a busy time of year!   ASPIRE is excited about new adventures this year.  Keep following our blog as this all unfolds.   Mark your calendars for May 5th.  Our big fundraiser is Let's Dance So They Can Ride.   Hope to see you all at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center.   Have a beautiful day and enjoy this beautiful weather.  Please join for all our special events.  We would love to see you there!

New Thoughts

I have been doing lots of praying in the past few weeks and days.   Life seems to have taken its toll and it has created many stressful situations from our dog Snickers being sick to financial and relationship struggles.  Last night my husband came in and said all the horses got into the pasture together and one of our old guys received an injury to his eye.   Lord, I have handled enough.   Please, I pray for health in relationships, finances and animals and humans.  Lord put your loving arms around all the horses and Snickers and our family and friends and continue to bless us with your healing hands and loving arms.

As I proceed I have made a decision to begin thinking harder about the business side of this organization and have taken steps to incorporate new and renewed ideas of how to approach this work.  Stay tuned as it all unfolds.  God is leading the path and I am following the journey.

Don't forget to mark your calendars for Jan 21 and 22 for our Horsemanship Clinic with Dan Grunewald and our Hairy Horse Show April 14 and 15.   Let's Dance is coming May 5th.   I will be happy to see all of you at one or all the events.  Please stop and say hello, I love to visit with you about my new plans and ASPIRE .

Vacation, Revelations and ASPIRE

It became very apparent to me this fall I needed a vacation.  You see our home is an office and I don't often have a lot of personal space.  I was demonstrating signs of burnout and compassion fatigue.   I needed sometime to stop and breathe.  My place of refuge is Clear Lake, Iowa.  Our family rented a house on the lake.  I packed up my things, oh man did I pack.  I was going to be gone for a least a month.   I had to take the truck to get everything up there.  HA!  My husband thinks I am nuts to take so much.  But after all it is my place for the time we rented.   Well, we spent Thanksgiving, Christmas and beyond at this beautiful home on South Shore. It was learning time.  I learned to make time for myself by reading, watching TV, taking long showers, massages and yes I even tried a facial.   I learned to exercise and make new friends.   I learned that peace and quiet was a gift and to enjoy those moments.   I learned to become accustom to taking time to do things for myself.  I returned home on Saturday with some renewed thoughts and revelations.  I truly am blessed to be able to spend time with family, extended time with my beautiful grandson and loved the memories we made.   I will miss my time there but it is time to move forward and work but take time for me.
